Zia Rd Station Opening

train in cloudsThe New Mexico Rail Runner Express will be adding the Zia Rd Station to its current weekday and Saturday/Sunday schedules with the new service to begin on April 24, 2017. While there will be minor adjustments in timing to the weekday schedule, the Saturday/Sunday schedules will reflect the additional stops at the Zia Rd Station. Please see the updated schedules below.

Seniors Use Rail Runner to Visit Cochiti Pueblo

Fourteen participants took the Rail Runner north for a busy day of tours, lunch, and other activities.

Reading on the Rails

reading on rails logoStarting March 6, passengers on the New Mexico Rail Runner Express will see a new addition to the interior of our train cars. Each car will now feature a brightly labeled pocket containing children’s books near the entrance. These books are part of Reading on the Rails, a new program being offered by the Rail Runner to provide children and families with a meaningful and educational experience while riding the train.


Valencia County Employees Receive a Special Salute

valencia staff appreciation 2On a chilly Thursday morning this past February, Rio Metro’s Valencia County staff was greeted to a special delivery of Blake’s Lotaburger breakfast burritos and hot coffee. And the person delivering? None other than KOB 4’s beloved weatherman, Steve Stucker. The delivery was part of KOB 4’s Morning Shift Salute, where Stucker delivers breakfast to workers who get up early, do their jobs well, and work hard at what they do.


New Low-Floor Buses Now Serving Valencia County

low floor bus valenciaIn January of this year, the Rio Metro Regional Transit District introduced four new low-floor buses to our Valencia County fleet. The buses are equipped with an air ride system, allowing the driver to safely exit the bus through the passenger side to assist individuals in wheelchairs, and to lower the bus closer to the ground for passengers to get on and off.


Thank You to Our Job Corps Volunteers

job corps party smMore than 30 students and staff from Albuquerque Job Corps helped put smiles on the faces of children and families this past December when they volunteered for Rio Metro’s annual Santa’s Village event. As a thank you for their cheerful participation in the event, Rio Metro staff hosted a pizza party in their honor last month.
