New Rail Runner Fares
Going into effect April 1st
Rail Runner Riders will now pay according to how
far they travel
(3-22-07) – Starting April 1st, the New Mexico Rail Runner
Express will move from its introductory fare structure into a new
zone-based fare structure. The amount Rail Runner passengers will
pay for a ticket will be determined by the distance they travel. All
stations in the 50-mile corridor between the Town of Bernalillo and
the City of Belen have been subdivided into zones for this purpose.
calculating your zone-based fare
“We want to make purchasing a Rail Runner ticket as easy and as
economical as possible”, says Rhonda Faught, NM Secretary of
Transportation. “We did extensive public outreach to come up with a
structure that was both affordable and convenient. This structure is
the result of what people told us they were willing to pay for a
Rail Runner ticket”, said Secretary Faught.
Calculating fares using the zone-based structure is as easy as
one-two-three. A person need simply decide where they’re going,
determine the fare that suits them best – one-way, day pass,
monthly, etc. – and pay the listed price. What’s more, passengers
will soon be able to purchase tickets online.
calculating your zone-based fare
“Now that the 50-miles of Phase One of the Rail Runner project is
open, we can finally move into a more regular fare structure”, says
Lawrence Rael, Executive Director for the Mid-Region Council of
Governments. “These fares represent a significant savings for
commuters in the heart of the Rio Grande valley, and this new
zone-based structure of charging for tickets will make it simple for
commuters to grasp”.
