Weekend Lane Closures at
Woodward Road
Railroad Crossing in South Valley
Rail Runner crossing undergoes improvements
(Albuquerque, NM - November 30 2007)
– South valley motorists traveling through the railroad crossing at
Woodward Road between Second Street and Broadway Boulevard will be
diverted north to Coal Avenue and south to Rio Bravo Boulevard the
next two weekends, as the New Mexico Rail Runner Express makes
improvements to the railroad track crossing.
Work crews will be replacing the whole crossing at
Woodward Road including pouring all new concrete beneath the rail.
This will make for a much smoother and safer commute for both trains
and vehicles using the crossing.
“These improvements will greatly increase railroad
safety in the area”, says Lawrence Rael, Executive Director of the
Mid-Region Council of Governments. “Having regular commuter service in
the middle region of the state has really brought attention to track
and road safety.” adds Rael.
Woodward Road Railroad Crossing Closure
CLOSED: Friday at 9:00 pm November, 30th
REOPENED: Prior to rush hour Monday morning December 3rd
(Eastbound and westbound traffic on Woodward Rd. will be diverted onto
2nd Street to the North and onto Rio Bravo Blvd. To the south)
“I am very pleased that these improvements are taking
place”, says NM State Representative Kiki Saavedra.”My constituents
have been asking for improvements on this crossing for some time now,
and this means that not only will their passage be smoother across the
tracks at Woodward, but also train passengers will benefit from the
upgrades as well.”
“These improvements are clearly a result of the purchase of the track
and the implementation of commuter rail in our area”, says NM
Representative Dan Silva, Chairman of the NM Legislative
Transportation Committee. “Now that the state owns the track, we are
seeing all kinds of improvements that will really benefit our
citizens”, adds Representative Silva.
