Office Renders Decision on Trademark for New Mexico Rail Runner
Express
Commuter Train Maintains Right to Use Name and
Logo
(Albuquerque,
NM – August 11,
2009) –
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
(PTO) issued a determination stating that the
New Mexico Rail Runner Express
has met the requirements for official trademark registration as set
forth by that office.
“As New Mexicans, we are all proud of the name and
logo of the New Mexico Rail Runner Express,” Governor Bill
Richardson said. “This trademark decision is a huge victory for the
people of New Mexico.”
“This is great news for the taxpayers of
New Mexico,” says Lawrence Rael, Executive
Director for the Mid-Region Council of Governments. “The name and
logo were designed with taxpayer money, and we’ve fought vigorously
to defend their property. Now that the U.S. Trademark Office has
ruled in our favor, this protects the public’s investment, while
allowing them to continue to use the name to which they have become
accustomed – the New Mexico Rail Runner Express.”
The New Mexico Rail Runner
Express has become the fastest start-up of a commuter rail train in
the country in the past 20 years.
