Rail Runner runs special train
for Los Lunas Summerfest
Special Saturday train leaves Albuquerque early for planned
festivities in Valencia County
(Albuquerque, 6-7-07) – This Saturday people wanting to
head to Los Lunas for the Village’s annual Summerfest bash, will now
have a way to get there a little earlier. The New Mexico Rail Runner
Express is adding an earlier train to its Summer Saturday schedule,
so that people can get a head start on partaking in the day’s
planned activities.
“We want to make sure that people can fully take advantage of
what Los Lunas is offering this weekend”, says Lawrence Rael,
Executive Director of the Mid-Region Council of Governments. “This
is an example of how the Rail Runner can facilitate regional
participation in community events and gatherings, and bring people
together from outlying areas for summer and family fun.”
The “South Route 66 Summerfest” kicks off Friday with a Battle of
the Bands competition. On Saturday, things get started early with
the 11th Annual Car Show, then a Wine & Micro Brew Tasting at noon.
An Art Show featuring more than 40 artists is part of the day’s
offerings, and at dusk, an outdoor movie will be shown. The Art Show
and Wine & Micro Brew Tasting continue on Sunday, along with another
added attraction – Valencia County’s Largest Garage Sale!
“It’s great to see how this event has grown each year, and now with
the Rail Runner bringing people to Los Lunas – we’re bound to get
even more interest”, says Rachel Pugh, Executive Director of the
Valencia County Chamber of Commerce. “This area has a lot of great
talent – artisans, craftspeople, musicians – we’re looking forward
to showing off to the rest of the region just what we have to offer
in Los Lunas.”
“We’re thrilled the Rail Runner can provide a viable affordable
weekday transportation alternative to our residents, but it’s a big
bonus when it can also assist in bringing folks in for social events
as well”, says Village of Los Lunas Mayor Louis Huning. “I imagine
the Rail Runner being the link to many worthwhile events that go on
here in Los Lunas throughout the year. It’s really going to put
Valencia County on the map”.
