Rail Runner Emergency Training Scheduled
Rail Runner Express to host Mock Emergency Drill for local
responder training
(11-01-06) - How would local emergency responders react to a
serious incident involving the New Rail Runner Express commuter train?
This Friday, they will get a firsthand chance to find out. A mock
emergency responders drill has been set up to allow local firefighters
and medical responders along the Rail Runner corridor an opportunity
to familiarize themselves with how to handle potential railway
disasters.

“This is important training”, says Rail Runner Operations Manager
Robert Gonzales. “This training teaches responders everything from how
to shut down the train’s engine to evacuating passengers through
windows. It’s very useful when you consider the number of people who
now use the Rail Runner to commute to work each day.”
About 100 local responders from various agencies are attending the
training, which culminates with Friday’s mock emergency drill. The
responders have already spent one full day gaining classroom
instruction leading up to the hands-on drill. There will also be about
160-train “volunteer victims” involved in the simulated event.

The whole railway emergency seminar is being sponsored by the New
Mexico Rail Runner Express and the City of Albuquerque’s Environmental
