The New Mexico Rail Runner Express hosted Janice Lovato, author of Germaine, the Beetle, for a reading and book signing on the train. The event included a children's costume contest and other activities. Participants rode the train from Santa Fe to Albuquerque and back. Many of the children put a lot of effort into their costumes. Everyone received a gift bag, and the winner of the costume contest was Miles, who was dressed as a lizard. He received an autographed copy of the book, which was also signed by Mrs. Lovato's son, Justin, 14 years old, who is the illustrator.
